Ernst, ihr alter Freund aus Kindertagen, ist immer an ihrer Seite. Als ihr lterer Bruder Hans aus dem Krieg nach Hause kommt, ndert sich Friedas Leben von einem Moment auf den anderen. So sehnlich sich die Familie seine Rckkehr gewnscht hatte, so wenig haben sie damit gerechnet, wie sehr ihn das Erlebte aus der Bahn warf. Eigentlich sollte er die Leitung des traditionsreichen Kontors bernehmen und es durch die wirtschaftlich schwierige Zeit bringen, doch daran ist nicht zu denken. Und pltzlich sieht sich Frieda in einem Konflikt zwischen familirer Verantwortung und eigenen Gefhlen, der unlsbar scheint.
