Windows into the infinite : a guide to the Hindu scriptures by Barbara Powell Fremont, Calif.: Asian Humanities Press, Fremont, Calif, United States, 1996
For thousands of years, spiritual seekers as well as ordinary people have immersed themselves in the sacred writings of Hinduism, finding there the answers to life's deepest questions. As relevant today as ever, these scriptures, breathtaking in their beauty and transforming power, are still undiscovered by most Westerners, who find their complexity daunting. Windows into the Infinite: A Guide to the Hindu Scriptures has come to the rescue. In a highly readable style, the author takes the readers step-by-step through each of the major Hindu scriptures, clarifying the principal themes, figures and terms as well as demonstrating their significance. While this unique book is of enormous value to spiritual aspirants as well as people with a general curiosity about Hinduism, it is also ideal for the academic environment. With its systematic format, extensive glossary, cross-referenced index and diagrams, it is an invaluable reference source.

Early Kamakura Buddhism: A Minority Report (nanzan Series In Religion & Culture) Robert E. Morrell; with a foreword by Minoru Kiyota Berkeley, Calif.: Asian Humanities Press, Nanzan studies in religion and culture, Berkeley, Calif, California, 1987
Japanese historians have dealt with Kamakura Buddhism in terms of the major sectarian developments of the time, tending to ignore the fact that the ancient sects continued to exist and exert influence on the development of the tradition. Prof. Morrell has provided "a minority report," a study of these smaller but nonetheless important groups within Buddhism during the Kamakura period. This is a much needed addition to the works dealing with the history and religions of Japan. It will be of interest not only to Buddhist scholars but to all those who deal with the culture of Japan."... This book is an exciting, important collection, well worth the time to read and suitable for libraries..."--Choice

The sound of water, the sound of wind : and other early works by a mountain monk Zen master Bopjong; translated from the Korean and edited by Brian Barry Jain Publishing Company, Inc., Fremont, California, California, 2010
The lotus blossoms in July, so the other day I took a trip something of an annual pilgrimage of sorts to a provincial park famous for its sea of pink lotuses. I go there every summer and just saunter around the huge pond for half a day or so and then return. The rainy season had already begun and when I arrived it was drizzling and the park was deserted. With umbrella in hand, I stood on the footbridge in the center of the pond, inhaling the mystical fragrance and watching the raindrops fall on the large green lotus pads. As it began to rain harder, it was interesting to observe that what seemed like large raindrops falling in front of my eyes looked more like tiny grains of millet once they landed on the pads. Then I noticed something else. The raindrops would collect into little transparent crystal pools on the pads. As more raindrops fell, the pools became larger and heavier, and the pads began to roll the pools around on their surfaces. When these little crystal pools grew to a certain size and weight, the pads unhesitatingly dropped them down onto the other pads below. Those pads in turn rolled the pools around until they were too big and heavy, whence they just rolled them off and down into the pond. I watched this process rather indifferently until I realized what was going on, and then I marveled at the wisdom to be found in the lotus pond. The pads held what they could until it became too much for them, and then they freed themselves of their burdens. If they didn't and, out of greed, tried to hold as many raindrops as possible, then either the pads would tear or their stems would break from the weight. - Zen Master Bopjong, Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall

Abhisamayalamkara with Vrtti and Aloka 1 Maitreya-natha (Author), Arya Vimuktisena (Sanskrit Commentary), Haribhadra (Sanskrit Commentary), Gareth Sparham (English Translator) Jain Publishing Company, Inc., Nov 01, 2011
Maitreya's Abhisamayalamkara is the most widely studied book in Tibet, where it was brought from India many centuries ago. It is used in all the monasteries to teach the path to Buddhahood, in accordance with the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras. It teaches this in outline form, so it requires a commentary to be understood. The oldest extant commentary is Arya Vimuktisena's Vrtti. Haribhadra, the most influential Indian commentator, drew upon this to write his Aloka. Virtually all of the many famous Tibetan teachers who wrote their own commentaries on the Abhisamayalamkara relied on Haribhadra as their primary source. This is the fourth of four volumes.

The weird and whimsical short stories in Strange Tales from Liaozhai show their author, Pu Songling (1640-1715), to be both an explorer of the macabre, like Edgar Allan Poe, and a moralist, like Aesop. In this first complete translation of the collection's 494 stories into English, readers will encounter supernatural creatures, natural disasters, magical aspects of Buddhist and Daoist spirituality, and a wide range of Chinese folklore. Annotations are provided to clarify unfamiliar references or cultural allusions, and introductory essays have been included to explain facets of Pu Songling's work and to provide context for some of the unique qualities of his uncanny tales. Early Chʾan in China and Tibet (1983) Whalen Lai (ed.), Lewis R. Lancaster (ed.) Asian Humanities Press, Berkeley Buddhist studies series ;, 5, Berkeley, Ca, California, 1983
Ch'an (Zen) Buddhism was popularized in the West by writers such as D. T. Suzuki and Alan Watts as a kind of romantic abstraction outside of history. The papers in this volume, originally presented at a unique conference sponsored by UC Berkeley and the San Francisco Zen Center, go a long way toward revealing the complex historical development of Ch'an theory and practice in China and Tibet.

Strange Tales from Liaozhai--Volume 3 Pu Songling, Sidney L. Sondergard Jain Publishing Company, Inc., Fremont, Calif, (2009)
This is volume 3 of 6.

Abhidharmakośabhāṣyam of Vasubandhu Vol. 2 Leo M. Pruden, Louis de La Vallée Poussin, Xuanzang, Vasubandhu Asian Humanities Press; Berkeley, Calif, 2, 1988
Volume 2 of Leo M. Pruden's English translation (1988) of La Vallée Poussin's French translation (1923–1931) of Xuanzang's Chinese translation (7th century) of Vasubandhu's Abhidharmakośa-Bhāṣya. Vasubandhu's "Abhidharmakosa-Bhasya" (ca. 380-390), besides its culminating achievement in streamlining the overall structure of the exposition of the preceding "Abhidharma" manuals, is unmatched by any of the preceding manuals in respect of its comprehensiveness - incorporating all important Vaibhasika doctrines since the time of the Abhidharma-mahavibhasa - of its excellent skill in definition and elucidation, and of its ability to clarify the difficult points involved in doctrinal disputations. Added to these qualities is its great value as a brilliant critique and insightful re-evaluation of all the fundamental Sarvastivada doctrines developed up to its time. Since its appearance, it has been used as a standard textbook for the understanding of not only the Abhidharma doctrines but all the fundamental Buddhist doctrines in general. Translated into Chinese by Paramartha in 563 A.D. and by Hsuan-tsang in 651-654 A.D., Hsuan-tsang's disciple P'u-Kuang tells us that in India the "Abhidharmakosa-Bhasya" was hailed as the "Book of Intelligence". In China, Japan and the Far-east, too, the Kosa has generally been highly treasured as a textbook of fundamental importance for Buddhist studies. Vasubandhu's brilliant critique of the doctrines of the Vaibhasika was answered by the equally brilliant Samghabhadra - a contemporary staunch defender and expounder of the doctrines of the Vaibhasikas - in his masterwork, the "Abhidharmanyayanusara", now extent only in Hsuan-tsang's translation (653-654 A.D.). The Sanskrit text, considered for a long time to be irremediably lost, was discovered by Rahula Samkrtyayana in 1935 in the Tibetan monastery of Ngor and was published by P. Pradhan in 1967 (1st edition).

Abhisamayalamkara with Vrtti And Aloka - Volume 1: First Abhisamaya Maitreya-natha, Gareth Sparham, Arya Vimuktisena, Haribhadra Jain Publishing Company, Inc., Fremont, Calif, California, 2006
This is the first of four volumes.

Periods of World History: A Latin American Perspective Charles A. Truxillo Jain Publishing Company, Inc., 2008
Periods Of World History: A Latin American Perspective Is The First Serious Attempt To Write A World History Narrative In Which Latin America Receives Serious Consideration. The Chronology Of The Work Covers The Normative Period Of World History To Date?1800 B.c. To 1800 A.d. During This Time, Differentiation Of World Societies Was At Its Height. The Six Civilized Core Areas Of The Ecumene Interacted But Were Not Moving Toward Uniformity As Was Characteristic Of The First Phase Of World History?theocratic Civilizations 3500-1500 B.c. Over The Last Two Centuries, Global Societies Have Also Tended To Coalesce Because Of Westernization, Industrialism, Nationalism, Ideology, And The Media. During The Normative Phase Of Human History, Latin America Moved From Being A Periphery Of Afro-eurasia To The Status Of Becoming The Economic Crucible Of Spain's Vast Catholic Monarchy, Which Was The Ecumene's First Global Power (1492-1648 A.d.), Latin America Was Again Reduced To Peripheral Status. Periods Of World History Explains These Processes In The Larger Context Of A Truly Global Historical Narrative, And As Such Makes An Extraordinary Contribution To Understanding Human Social Development. Charles Truxillo Is A Professor Of Chicano Studies At The University Of New Mexico In Albuquerque. He Received His Ph.d. In Latin American History At Unm, And Has Published Two Other Books, History Of Islam, And By The Sword And The Cross. Dr. Truxillo Is Dedicated To Teaching Chicano Studies In The Context Of Latin America And World History.
