Admiral Cayden Douglas, hero of the Solarian War not only suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder but half of humanity hates him for his successes in the war. Indeed, assassination attempts are seemingly being made on his life every other day.
Nevertheless, he has been selected, first to be the project manager of the first interstellar voyage and colony and then later its mission commander. Assuming, that is, that he survives long enough to make the voyage. Even the colony’s appointed governor, Nikki Pennington, can’t stand the sight of him.

Its just as well that he doesn’t because nothing goes according to plan. There’s more than a few mysteries at the first inhabitable planet and Cayden doesn’t know how to make head or tails of any of it.
This he does know. He’d better figure it out quickly because the fate of his ship, crew, and passengers depend on him making the right decision and making it quickly. Never mind politics, survival was the name of the game now.
