Escéptico ante la idea de que un asesino le anuncie abiertamente que piensa matarlo, la aparición del cuerpo mutilado de una mujer en el mismo barrio en el que se levanta la parroquia de San José convence al sacerdote de que la amenaza no es ninguna broma, sino una advertencia del futuro que le aguarda. Amordazado por el secreto de confesión, que le impide acudir a la policía en busca de ayuda, el padre Martín se lanzará a una desesperada carrera para encontrar la pista que le indique la identidad del asesino que va tras él, así como el motivo que le impulsa a desear su muerte. En su desesperado camino se cruzará con Jesús Arteaga, el bronco inspector de policía al frente de la investigación del homicidio. A medida que las pesquisas avanzan sin que el caso dé señales de aclararse, el asesino golpea de nuevo, convirtiendo al padre Martín no solo en su próxima víctima, sino en sospechoso ante la policía. Atrapado entre la justicia y el hombre que le susurró su muerte a través de la celosía del confesionario, el sacerdote se verá envuelto en una espiral de violencia e intriga de la que dependen su vida y su propia alma.
